As I write this, Thanksgiving is just 10 weeks away (sigh). Christmas…14. Wow!! Where is time going? If anybody finds it, let me know! Today I packed away my summer apparel, deep cleaned the window sills, replaced my furnace filter, and neatly piggy-backed my sandals in one of those ‘under the bed’ storage containers. Reality has set in folks. Fall is here and Summer just turned its back with a tear.
I say, let’s just embrace the inevitable and kick up our heels!!! Fall in my book means “time for a refresher!!!” Deep rust pillows have crept into my family room, kicking aside the off-white silk ones. Fresh candle wicks illuminate my Pumpkin spice candles. I guess the linen candles were looking pathetic anyway. I threw away the last crusty candle with a smile. So often, we complain about our spaces and never do anything about them!
This is a time of year to not only add some holiday fun and decor into your spaces, but to take your productivity up a notch! Why not use this time of year to start a new project? The kids are back in school, you’ve got some extra time on your hands, and there’s a nip in the air. Ouuuuu…fresh, new pencils!! Clean out your closets, donate those sweaters you haven’t worn for 3 years, or simply re-invent your spaces! Muted shades and bold colors are still in. However, keep it sophisticated. You want to use 2-3 colors in a space, one being a bolder color if desired. With these hard economic times, you may be staying in more.
Consider making your unused guest room a craft room or even a space for your new treadmill. Take 5 minutes right now…walk through your home. Ask yourself, “what’s the one room in my home I most dislike?” Then, make a list of things in JUST THAT SPACE that you would change. Decide (financially) what you can afford to change the space and get going! Before we know it, it will be Spring! Good luck…and have fun darnit! Your home is worth it.
