Another year, new ventures. Be sure to watch HGTV’s “Bang For Your Buck” this season. Just completed filming in Las Vegas, NV. This will be a fun episode. Great homeowners, fun spaces!
Reuse what you have. Reinvent your pieces. Rediscover your space! This is my new marketing campaign. I was recently inspired by old furniture pieces that have been refurbished to look like new again. Old wine barrels, an old blacksmith table, a twisted log…all items thought to be disposal that received some TLC and wah-lah! These pieces now reside in an $850,000 home. An old rusted door hinge can tell it’s story if you allow it. It’s all in the approach you have to your space. I love seeing this new revival! I’ve been seeing splashes of it all around Colorado. As soon as I can gather some images of these pieces, I will post them. Enjoy the Fall colors!! This is such a beautiful time of year!
Itching for change? I know the feeling. Spring cleaning is well under way and perhaps you’re thinking of some new paint, new furniture, or even replacing some old flooring. With the economy in the state it is, making small changes and appreciating what you have is proving to lighten the spirit! And by all means, it should. Most people I work with have more than enough ‘things’ to design (or redesign) their space. That’s never the problem. The challenge presents itself when we try to put too much furniture and decor in a space that can’t accommodate it. Remember the phrase, “less is more?” Apply it to your spaces….always! Summer is right around the corner. Clean up, clean out, freshen up your space!!
Oh yes! A new year is here, a new approach to the way we do things. It’s time to clean out the clutter, scrub the turkey drippings from the back of the stove, deep clean the rugs, and pack away the holiday decorations. There’s something downright exhilarating about starting a new year fresh. It’s like…newly sharpened pencils in the Fall! I realize for some there is a sadness at this time of year. You may be thinking, “Darn it, the holidays are over, I’m 6 lbs heavier, it’s freezing outside…what can I look forward to? Not to mention, my skin is pastier than the Mexican Wedding Cakes I chowed on all through Christmas!!!??”
I promise you if you dig a bit deeper than than the morning newspaper, you’ll find that sense of adventure that this new year deserves! I receive many requests this time of year to help people ‘shape up their spaces.’ It doesn’t take much. In fact, it requires taking away, not adding. If you want your home to look fresh, considered, and exciting, then you have to adopt a new mentality. Continue reading “A New Year, A New Approach” »
As I write this, Thanksgiving is just 10 weeks away (sigh). Christmas…14. Wow!! Where is time going? If anybody finds it, let me know! Today I packed away my summer apparel, deep cleaned the window sills, replaced my furnace filter, and neatly piggy-backed my sandals in one of those ‘under the bed’ storage containers. Reality has set in folks. Fall is here and Summer just turned its back with a tear. Continue reading “The Holidays, Closer Than You Think!” »
Outdoor living spaces are all the rage this summer. So, I took a look at my own. The deck was weathered, some floorboards were coming up, last years patio set went to the trash…and it lacked that inviting feeling. I rented a floor sander from Home Depot, stained the deck with a 100% color concentrate wood stain by Behr. Then, I purchased a new patio table, chairs, and some new flower boxes. Consider red flowers for deck areas. Wow, they add that much needed bold splash of color. I mounted the flower boxes on top of the deck rails to save on space, put some candle lanterns out, polished up the stainless steel grill and it all came to life. Outdoor candles, plants, rugs, pillows, and color, color, color!!! What a difference. And I thought I needed to replace my deck?? What a wonderful transformation.
